Priorities for Our Future
RESPONSIBLE BUDGETING & FAIR PROPERTY TAXES
The state cannot continue to live beyond its means. We must plan for the future so we can invest in the priorities that matter to our community without pushing the burden onto our local property taxes or using budget gimmicks to sweep debt under the rug. From running a small business to helping manage major state agencies, Jesse knows what it takes to project revenues, control expenses and balance a budget. He’s committed to overhauling the state budgeting process so it will be sustainable for the long-term without shifting increased costs onto our families or our property taxes.
BUSINESS-FRIENDLY POLICIES THAT ATTRACT GOOD JOBS
Whether it’s a small start-up or a major manufacturer, business development is the lifeblood of our state economy and our job market. In order to encourage more business growth and job creation, the state must continually work to foster a stable, business-friendly environment that provides the framework and certainty that small business owners and entrepreneurs need to get their start without unnecessary hurdles or red tape. Improving our business climate now will pave the way so that good-paying jobs are waiting for our kids when they graduate, allowing them to stay right here in Kansas.
GOOD SCHOOLS AND SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS FOR OUR CHILDREN
Education and community safety are critical factors to our quality of life. That means adequate funding and accountability in our schools at every level - from early childhood programs to K-12 to higher education and workforce training. We must ensure our children have access to the right education for their future, whether that’s a four-year degree like Washburn University offers or technical training like Washburn Tech and our local apprenticeship programs provide.
